Before your site can be put into a search engine's database and positioned, (known as "indexing”), the search engine must first "find" your web site. This registration or inclusion process is most often accomplished by crawlers, spiders, bots and the like. This process can be said to be automatic, assuming the site is built correctly.
Other sites found on search engies are also obtained from Directory databases, such as Yahoo Directory and Open Directory. This is also a crawler activity. If a web site is constructed carefully, with search engine indexing enhancements embedded on the underside, bots are usually able to find and index all of the linked pages.
In some cases however, free registrations are offered and accomplished by completing a form. the specific links have different names, but "add URL" or "add your website" denote the submission hyperlink. Of late, there have been a growing number of fee-based engines and Directories, ones that offer a variety of listing packages. The better the placement opportunity, the higher the fee should be anticipated. Additionally the duration of the listings vary widely.
Webconsuls views inclusion on Engines and Directories as being very important in the web marketing process. Accordingly, we work with each client to establish a budget for paid inclusions, dictated in large part by the business category experience, competitive analyses, levels of aggressiveness desired, etc.
Submission reports are routinely furnished to our Clients. |
