Doorway Pages

Sooner or later any discussion of Search Engine Placement turns to Doorway Pages, also called Gateway Pages, bridge pages, portal pages, zebra pages.

What are Doorway Pages?

Doorway Pages are pages specifically designed to appeal to search engines for specific search terms. Once accessed, the pages are immediately (often invisibily) redirected. Doorway pages that redirect visitors without their knowledge use some form of cloaking techniques. "Meta Refresh" describes the redirection command in many cases.

Webconsuls does not construct Doorway Pages. Webconsuls recognizes that clients often have important information to offer to search engines and viewers that is not a part of the site. Webconsuls' talented designers will add content pages to the site. These pages can be easily accessed by both search engines and viewers.

Landing pages on the other hand, are quite different and fully acceptable. Wikipedia states:

"In online marketing a landing page, sometimes known as a lead capture page, is the page that appears when a potential customer clicks on an advertisement or a search-engine result link. The page will usually display content that is a logical extension of the advertisement or link, and that is optimized to feature specific keywords or phrases for indexing by search engines.

In pay per click (PPC) campaigns, the landing page will also be customized to measure the effectiveness of different advertisements. By adding a parameter to the linking URL, marketers can measure advertisement effectiveness based on relative click-through rates."

Landing pages are usually content-rich and are created to faciliate information accessibility.
